SUBJECTIVE ASSESSMENT AND MEDICAL HISTORY

Regardless of the individual needs, each bike fitting starts with a cyclist’s medical history and a clear definition of the objectives and purposes of the bike fitting. We help each cyclist with advice about which options are best for them. After that we talk through the medical history, cycling experiences and other important information that can be used in the process of bike fitting.

PHYSIOTHERAPEUTIC EXAMINATION

After the conversation the physiotherapist will begin an examination that covers posture analysis, flexibility and provocative tests to identify causes and weak links for the most common injuries that occur during cycling. Additional attention is dedicated to areas which were highlighted during the medical history. Any irregularities found are noted and addressed accordingly during the bike fitting.

ASSESSMENT OF MUSCLE SYMMETRIES

After the physical examination the cyclist undergoes a series of tests to assess muscle symmetries. This allows us to identify the weak links in the chain of muscles required to propel the pedals. Based on these results we can advise cyclists on which muscles they need to additionally strengthen to achieve optimal mechanical efficiency. At the same time we can diagnose risk factors for injury occurrence (eg. low back pain) which can be prevented with the appropriate interventions.

DYNAMICAL BIKE FITTING

Firstly, we mount cleats which allow the cyclist to clip into the pedal with a force sensor. We attach inertial motion units to the segments of the body which gives us information about the movement in 3D space. Using algorithms of artificial intelligence with the data from the force sensor and inertial motion units we can find the most efficient position, which provides the best mechanical efficiency and unloads the joints for injury prevention.

TRAINING AND CONSULTATIONS

Even after the bike fitting, the optimal position could still be less efficient than in some other circumstances. The most common reason for that is the lack of flexibility in weak muscle symmetries. Therefore we also offer to implement targeting exercises to the existing training regime. The additional training is designed based on the deficits found during the physical examination and assessment of muscle symmetries. We also provide individual-led training using our facilities.

Cyclists

Tanja Žakelj, Unior Tools Team

Tanja is currently the best female mountain biker in the world (UCI no. 1), European champion and two-times World champion. We performed a complete biomechanical assessment to provide her with interventions and advice on performance improvements.
.

Luka Mezgec,
Orica-Greenedge Professional cycling team

Luka is a former mountain biker and now a professional cyclist riding for Team Giant-Shimano. He is regularly on the podium even in the biggest races, such as Giro d’ Italia. We performed a complete biomechanical assessment to provide him with interventions and advice on performance improvements.
